Healing Perspectives: January 2008

Greetings!
Here we are at the beginning of another year. Are you welcoming it in with great anticipation and positive expectations? If you are, congratulations! 2008 is the Year of New Beginnings. A year electrified with change - change that will make it possible for us to rise above and move beyond where we were last year - change that will allow us to let go of the sources of our suffering - change that will offer new possibilities and new opportunities - change that will shift the perception we have of ourselves and what we're capable of achieving - change that will set in motion the manifestation of the dreams we've been carrying deep inside just waiting for the right time. That time is now!

As many of you know, at the end of each year I ask my guides for insight into the theme for the upcoming year. I inquire about what the year will hold energetically and whether there are any significant dates throughout the year we should be aware of - dates that will affect us energetically, physically, and foretell changes we might expect. I also ask them for guidance as to how we can best navigate through these changes. Finally, I ask them to share code words that will inspire us and give us the strength and confidence necessary to embrace the changes and challenges that await us in 2008.

For 2008, the theme is New Beginnings.

The code word we should embody in our thoughts and actions is COURAGE.

The two major changes we can expect this year will be
  1. The liberation from other people's perceptions
  2. A life absent of suffering.

Words Hold within Themselves Great Power

I've always been intrigued with words and have enjoyed looking up their definitions and uncovering the meanings behind them. As a child, I would love to say certain words because they would make me feel good or laugh because they sounded funny, distorted my mouth, and changed my facial expression when spoken. Although these words have the same effect on me today, over the course of time, my perception of words and their power has changed. Today, I see words as energetic attractants and the momentum behind our experiences. As a result, words have taken on an entirely new value. Rather than wasting words carelessly in idle chatter, or using them as manipulative tools to control, I now monitor and manage my words carefully.

When I learned from my guides that 2008 is the Year of New Beginnings, I immediately went to the dictionary and looked up the words new and beginning . The word new is defined as "recently introduced and previously unfamiliar; recently introduced to a place or situation." Another definition is "changed, especially for the better." Then I looked up the word beginning , and found the following definition; "the time or place of starting; birth; origin; new; the result of change." Although certainly apropos and validation for what the guides said we can expect in 2008, they were quick to caution that we won't experience anything new if we don't assess last year and have the courage to make the necessary adjustments to embrace and embody the changes of 2008.

What are the necessary adjustments we must be willing to make to enjoy the limitless personal liberation 2008 offers?

  • Let go of our deeply entrained beliefs, old ideals, habits and comfort zones.
  • Let go of the unhealthy thoughts that are causing our body to become unhealthy.
  • Let go of the relationships that foster co-dependency and cause us to suffer.
  • Let go of jobs that, while comfortable and safe, are affecting our health and impacting the quality of our life.
  • Let go of the status quo' and the conditioning that encourages taking the path of least resistance.

Courage

Courage is defined as "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty." Another definition is "the ability to change and to act upon one's convictions." Courage is what true grit is made of and is responsible for shifting the perception we have of our challenges. Rather than seeing failure, we see success. Rather than seeing obstacles, we see opportunities. Courage provides the fortitude to move forward with grace and confidence even when our fears are working overtime to hold us hostage to the past. It's what serves as the catalyst for healing and may even determine if someone lives or dies.

When I asked the guides for their insight into the word courage, it was different than what is defined in the dictionary. They see the presence of courage as raising our vibration and forming a protective cocoon so we become impervious to the perceptions and expectations of the outer world. They see the energy of courage as being the attractant of our spirit guides and angels and a call to action so they may better serve us in our time of change and uncertainty. They see courage as the merging of the head and heart so we have access to both our acquired knowledge and our inner wisdom. With this merger, it is courage that turns our focus from outward to inward enabling us to find our own answers, live up to our full potential, and manifest our soul's purpose on this earthly plane. As guidance, they offered the following attributes associated with courage:

  • It's a state of mental and emotional well-being
  • It's a sense of empowerment that occurs when we feel valued and heard
  • It's a sense of connection to our soul and to other people
  • It's a sense of purpose that provides us with a mission
  • It's a vision of our true potential and gives us the fortitude to bring that potential into expression
  • It's the confidence we feel when we move forward on our spiritual journey
If you're in the process of creating new beginnings that will make your life better, attract the relationships you desire, and improve your health, here are a few quotes that may help you in the process.

We must change in order to survive. - Pearl Bailey
Things don't change. You change your way of looking, that's all. - Carlos Castaneda
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it. - Mark Twain
There are days when you don't have a song in your heart. Sing anyway. - Emory Austin

Illnesses and Their Hidden Meanings

Cataracts

General Description: Cataracts are the clouding and hardening of the lens of the eye, which causes the light the eye lets in to become minimized or blocked. The result is the distortion and blurring of vision. Some contributors to the development of cataracts include aging, glaucoma, smoking, diabetes, steroid drugs (such as those used for asthma), large dosages of radiation, and excessive exposure to UV light.

Psychological Implications: The presence of cataracts in the aging process is an indicator that we've reached the age where it's time to shift the way we see things and to look at life differently. It represents the rite of passage from one phase of life into another.

In some cases, the cloudiness reflects an inability to see things clearly, not wanting to see how bad things really are, or being caught in a situation where there's no end in sight. The hardening of the lens represents the fear of being blind-sided by other people, the resistance to look ahead for fear of what the future may hold, and the need to control what's happening in the outer world.

In all situations, the key lesson to be learned is that we can't control the future or other people, but we can change how we see things.

Associated emotions: Fear, frustration, resentment, hopelessness

What to change: Attitudes

Healing Hint:
According to a resent study, those who napped at midday for 30 minutes or more at least 3 times weekly were 37% less likely to die of heart disease than those who didn't. The reason that naps help protect the heart from stress-related problems, such as high blood pressure is, because they cause the brain to release healing endorphins that calm the nerves and neutralize the hormonal effects of stress.
