Breast Cancer |

One of most frightening four words a woman can hear is, “You have breast cancer.” Yet, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with this life-threatening disease during her lifetime. In fact, today breast cancer is the 2nd most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, next to skin cancer. It is the 2nd-leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer, and it is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 35 to 54. However, it isn’t just women who are affected by this cancer. In 2002, an estimated 1500 men were diagnosed and the number is increasing each year. Interestingly, many of the same risk factors for women are true with men such as hormones, obesity, diet, and genetics. Some research even shows that it may be tied to what causes prostate cancer in men.
