One of the most defining qualities of the soul is its inherent desire for selfless giving. This selfless giving is called Altruism. The Latin root word for altruism is alter, meaning other. Altruism places the concern of others above the needs of the individual. Therefore the altruist, following their spiritual moral compass freely gives to others without expectations or the need for recognition. In altruism, the view of the self is transcended: self no longer perceives self as the only center of worth, and no longer perceives worth in others only to the extent that they contribute to egotistic driven interests. Altruism fosters the spirit of hope, initiative, creativity, going beyond norms and comfort zones, and restrictive dogmas.
Another word that describes altruism is generosity. However, generosity and altruism aren't necessarily the same. Generosity is usually associated with the giving of material worth such as the giving of clothes, food, shelter, and money. Altruism, on the other hand, as seen from the perspective of the soul is the selfless giving of our two most precious gifts; time and energy. When generosity includes the selfless giving of time and energy, it transforms into altruism.
Join Carol for this Saturday Soul Gathering as she shares how altruism is an inherent part of our human design. She will discuss how you have goodness genes in your DNA, altruistic synapses in your brain, and selfless markers in your cells. You will learn how these genes serve as a spiritual moral compass influencing your perception of humanity, and how they drive your interactions with others. You will learn how acts of altruism can be cultivated by engaging in acts such as kindness, cooperation, friendship, affection, respect, appreciation, and caring. Acts not motivated by importance, status, narcissism, self-centeredness, and selfishness.
The Saturday Soul Gathering is held the first Saturday of each month at the Ritberger Learning Center, in Cameron Park, CA. While each gathering is designed as a standalone event, the information shared will set the intention for succeeding gatherings. The gatherings are lecture and experiential in nature, so bring a journal that you can dedicate specifically to capturing the wisdom held within your soul.
I invite you to join me to learn how altruism is what brings light to an otherwise dark world, and explore with me the many benefits of altruism. These benefits include:
- Dedication to the well being of others
- Improvement in the quality of life for all and not just those who live in lack
- Transformation of hatred, injustice, discrimination, and poverty
- Reconsideration of how we use and treat animals
- Consideration for the well being of future generations; environmentally, economically, politically, socially
- Cultivation of a moral consciousness based on truth, respect, trust, and diversity
Altruism, above all, is at the heart of the spiritual path. It not only nurtures the soul of others, it also brings hope to those who are depressed by violence, war, selfishness, hatred, and the corruption that surrounds us today.
Light & Love,
